But as forecast by InDaily on Monday, the Socceroos have tumbled nine places to equal 68th with west African minnows Mali.

With no international matches played by the 20 best teams so far this year, Belgium still lead second-placed Argentina and third-placed Spain.

World Cup champions Germany are No.4, followed by Chile and Brazil in a top 10 dominated by European and South American teams.

The three teams to make the biggest moves since the last rankings all come from Asia: Palestine at No.110 (up 21 spots), Saudi Arabia at No.55 (up 20 spots) and North Korea at No.95 (up 18 spots).

Despite recent wins in November against Bangladesh (4-0) and Kyrgyzstan (3-0), Australia haven’t played since and are now 20 spots below their average position of 48th since FIFA began its rankings in 1993.

Belarus (67), Haiti (65), Equatorial Guinea (64) and Panama (60) are among a batch of lesser lights who enjoy higher positions.
