Brisbane run the risk of losing James Aish for nothing if they continue with their hardline stance in refusing his request for a trade, according to his manager.

Aish, a top-10 draft pick in 2013, informed the Lions on Thursday he’d like to be traded to Collingwood, but his request was swiftly rebuffed.

The 19-year-old would have to nominate for the pre-season draft if a deal cannot be brokered, which would leave the Lions empty-handed and would allow Carlton, who have the first pick, to swoop.

Brisbane football director Leigh Matthews said last week that Aish would either be playing for the Lions next year or going into the draft, but Aish’s manager Liam Pickering warned against such a scenario.

“They’ve got the power in the end and they would need to work out whether they want to lose James Aish for nothing or whether they want to do a deal,” Pickering told Trade Radio.

“I understand what Leigh said … but James has been there for two years and he’s got every right as an uncontracted player to request a trade, so we’ll see how it pans out.

“He really wants to come to Melbourne, he really wants to play for Collingwood.

“It’s taken him a long time to come to that decision and now that he has, the job is to try and get him there.

“The Pies are obviously keen to try and get something to happen but I understand Brisbane’s position as well.

“There’s a bit of work to do.”

Collingwood face a tough task in satisfying both the Lions and Greater Western Sydney in the coming trade period, with young Giant Adam Treloar also requesting a trade to Collingwood.

On a dramatic day in the lead-up to the trade period, Jake Carlisle told Essendon he would like to be traded to St Kilda.

However, the two parties are already at loggerheads over a potential deal with the Bombers demanding the Saints’ fifth overall pick – a selection they are unwilling to part with.
