Crows veteran Scott Thompson has become the latest Adelaide player to sign a contract extension, agreeing to a new one-year deal.

Thompson, 32, has been among the Crows’ most consistent players this year, averaging 27 possessions over his 18 games and winning the Phillip Walsh Medal for best on ground in the second Showdown.

His signing is the latest in a string of important contract deals clinched by the club over recent weeks.

Yesterday, big defender Kyle Hartigan and crucial link-man Tom Lynch both signed new deals with the Crows.

Thompson now has a chance to close his career as a 300-game player. He has played 282 career games over 15 seasons, including 243 with the Crows.

He played 39 games for Melbourne before returning to his home state before the 2005 season.

“There’s a real sense of enthusiasm and determination among our playing group,” Thompson said.

“It’s really exciting for our club and our supporters to be back in the finals this season, and I’m committed to helping this team achieve success.

“I feel I still have a lot to contribute not just on game day, but also in mentoring our younger players coming through.”

Crows Head of Football David Noble said Thompson was a respected leader.

“Scott epitomises the elite standards that we value as a club,” Noble said.

“He works extremely hard on and off the football field, which is reflected in his consistency of performance over a long period of time, and is an excellent role model for our emerging midfielders.”
