Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines’ AFL season hangs by a thread after twice dislocating a shoulder in a 63-point belting of St Kilda on Sunday.

Wines was hurt as Port kept in touch with the top eight with a 17.10 (112) to 6.13 (49) victory at Adelaide Oval.

The highly-rated onballer dislocated his left shoulder when bumping Saint David Armitage in the first quarter.

Medicos put Wines’ shoulder back into place and he returned, only for the joint to again pop out.

Port coach Ken Hinkley says it could be season over for the influential Wines, who will have scans on Monday.

“It could potentially mean that, no doubt,” Hinkley said.

“When people do their shoulders, they can play, it just depends on how much damage is done.

” … I will tell you what, if there is any risk, there won’t be one taken.”

Wines’ injury soured an emphatic triumph for Port, who remain 12th and just six premiership points shy of the top eight.

“Our last month, we have won three and lost one by a kick, so we have been pretty competitive,” Hinkley said.

“We haven’t been at our best, we’re not hiding away from that … but sometimes you just have to grind your way back into form.”

The Power outclassed a sloppy St Kilda, with standout games from their most talented duo – onballer Robbie Gray gathered a game-high 37 disposals and elusive forward Chad Wingard kicked four goals.

The pair, and the feats of Justin Westhoff (23 disposals, two goals), captain Travis Boak (29 possessions) and sweeping defender Hamish Hartlett (27 touches), overwhelmed a Saints side which stumbled their way to defeat.

Midway through the second term, St Kilda had wasted some tenacious field play with poor goalkicking – they were 1.9 and their winning chances were cruelled.

“That’s really frustrating and it’s important to get bang for your buck on the road,” Saints coach Alan Richardson said of the inaccuracy.

St Kilda lost ruckman Billy Longer to concussion and had few winners – evergreen midfielder Leigh Montagna collected 26 disposals and kicked two goals while Armitage (22 possessions) and Jarryn Geary (23 touches) battled gamely.

The Saints remain 11th with six wins and coach Richardson implored them to gain some traction in the remainder of the season.

“We want to finish off well … if it means something to us as a team, we will bounce back,” he said.
