Adam Goodes leads his team from the field after the weekend's defeat.

Sydney star Adam Goodes will meet AFL officials as the game grapples with opposition fans routinely booing him.

The issue was reignited on Sunday when some West Coast fans booed the two-time Brownlow Medallist during the match.

Indigenous teammate Lewis Jetta launched a war cry dance at a section of the Eagles crowd and he later confirmed this was in support of Goodes.

Swans chairman Andrew Pridham has labelled the booing racist, and Goodes received strong support on Monday night from rival coaches Nathan Buckley and Paul Roos.

The AFL Players Association, AFL and Sydney will meet with Goodes on Tuesday.

“The AFL Players Association and our members are extremely disappointed with the ongoing and unjustified treatment directed towards Adam Goodes,” the association said in a statement.

“Adam is a champion of our game, but above and beyond that he is a champion human being and the ongoing vilification directed towards him is taking its toll.

“The AFL industry prides itself on its inclusivity and diversity for both players and fans.

“As such we call on all AFL fans to show Adam the respect he has earned from his contribution on and off the field.”

The next likely flashpoint is when Geelong host Sydney on August 8.

“I would say there’s definitely a racist element to it,” Buckley told Fox Footy.

“I wouldn’t say it necessarily started that way, but I definitely see that.

“I reckon we are at a position in the game and in society that if you booed him the next time at Simonds Stadium in a couple of weeks, I reckon you get a clip across the ear from a few people.

“And I’d like to see that.”

Buckley later clarified his comment, saying he meant “howled down” rather than “a clip across the ear”.

Meanwhile, Adelaide star Patrick Dangerfield has implored Crows supporters not to boo Goodes during their AFL clash against Sydney at the SCG on Saturday.

“I’d hope our fans wouldn’t but you just don’t know, and you can’t control that many people at a footy game,” Dangerfield told 5AA radio.

“I think it is because he’s so outspoken. It’s such a sensitive issue.

“He stands up and says what he thinks, which I think is terrific. I think it’s something he should be commended for, because not many people do it”.

Swans legend Michael O’Loughlin said he was disgusted by the constant booing.

“I think where it’s heading, the continued booing of an unbelievable player and what he’s done for the game, is just really disheartening,” he told 5AA radio.

“Some people like their Aboriginal people to be very, very thankful for what’s happened as a way of dealing with issues but Adam has been there and done that.

“He’s one of those really powerful leaders in our community who tells it like it is, and people don’t like that.”
