Adelaide Lightning has ensured its short-term spot in the WNBL after securing a naming rights sponsor for next season.

The sponsorship deal announced with Motor Accident Commission on Friday helps shore up the five-time WNBL championship club’s financial future for the next 12 months.

“I am absolutely delighted that MAC has come on board as the Lightning’s naming rights partner, as it has been crucial to the Lightning securing its future in the WNBL,” Basketball SA CEO Mark Hubbard said.

The Lightning had to find around $150,000 to ensure its spot in the WNBL for the 2015/16 season.

Basketball Australia CEO Anthony Moore said the WNBL was buoyed by the announcement.

“Adelaide Lightning is an entity that we have always believed deserves to continue,” he said.

With short-term funding secured, Basketball Australia said it would now move quickly to finalise the governing structure of the club.
