West Coast coach Adam Simpson is hopeful Josh Kennedy won’t need surgery on his injured elbow, but the star forward remains in doubt for Sunday’s AFL clash with Port Adelaide.

Kennedy underwent scans on Monday after hyper extending his right elbow during last week’s 87-point demolition of GWS.

The Eagles will pore over the scan results on Tuesday before deciding on the best course of action to take.

Kennedy played through the injury to kick six goals against GWS, lifting his season tally to a competition-leading 22 majors.

Should Kennedy be forced to the sidelines, it would be a major blow to an Eagles outfit already missing Jack Darling.

“Fingers crossed he’s ok,” Simpson told Perth radio station 6PR.

“I don’t really know of the full extent of what the scans produced. He’s meeting a few people (on Tuesday).

“Fingers are crossed that no surgery is required, and hopefully the damage is on the lighter end.

“He’s an important part of our team. Sometimes we rely on him too much to get the job done.”

West Coast can ill afford to lose another key big man after defenders Eric Mackenzie and Mitch Brown suffered season-ending knee injuries.

Ruckman Scott Lycett would be in line for a recall should Kennedy be ruled out of Sunday’s clash at Adelaide Oval.

Defender Will Schofield (rolled ankle) has been cleared of any serious damage and is set to take on the Power, while wingman Matt Rosa (back) is a chance to return.

The Eagles have thumped Brisbane (53 points) and GWS in the past fortnight, but Simpson said taking on the Power on their home turf is one of the toughest assignments in the AFL.
