The Hobart Hurricanes have signed South Australian paceman Shaun Tait for two seasons in the Big Bash League.

Tait, 32, will switch from the Adelaide Strikers who reached the semi-finals in January and finished the competition atop the points table.

He will fill a hole in the Hobart squad left by former Test bowler Ben Hilfenhaus, who has signed with the Melbourne Stars for three years.

The Strikers this week lost captain Johan Botha, who signed with the Sydney Sixers for three years.

SACA general manager high performance Tim Nielsen said Tait had been an excellent player for the Strikers.

“Hobart put a tremendous offer to Shaun and he has accepted it,” he said.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose Shaun who is a home-grown Adelaide boy, but we understand that this is the nature of the BBL.

“We wish Shaun all the best for the future and thank him for his contribution to the Adelaide Strikers.”
