Redbacks coach Darren Berry has stepped aside for “personal reasons”, with no timeframe put on his return.

His assistant Jeff Vaughan will become caretaker coach in the interim.

SACA General Manager High Performance Tim Nielsen said in a statement that Berry would “step aside as coach of the West End Redbacks for family reasons”.

“Darren has asked SACA for an extended period of personal leave and we have respected his wishes to do so,” Nielsen said.

He has sought privacy in relation to the reasons for his absence and SACA asked media to respect his wishes.

“There has been no time limit put on Darren’s leave and the SACA will give him as much time as he needs,” said Neilsen.

“I would like to stress that Darren remains the coach of the West End Redbacks and Jeff Vaughan will step into the role in a caretaker position.”

He said the SACA had “every confidence in our coaching team and our senior players to lead the team through the second half of the Bupa Sheffield Shield season”.

The Redbacks are currently fifth on the ladder, with one win from five matches, with the Shield season set to resume on February 7.
