Sacred Heart College, one of Australia’s premium AFL talent nurseries, won its third successive Open Schools Cup Championship at Norwood Oval on Tuesday night.

The college’s list of 24 AFL players in the post-1990 era includes Port Adelaide’s Cornes brothers, Fremantle’s Matthew Pavlich, Crows players Jason Porplyzia, James Gallagher, Simon Tregenza and Matthew Liptak. The Hartlett brothers (Adam at Carlton and Hamish at Port) have also donned the SHC blue.

It’s likely there several AFL prospects in last night’s win where Sacred Heart dominated Prince Alfred College from the outset and grabbed its third successive title by 59 points.

The final score was SHC 15.9 (99) defeating PAC 5.10 (40).

Hearts kicked five unanswered goals in the first term and were eight goals to one up at half time.

Ryan Burton won the Colin Steinert medal as best on ground, after a seven goal haul as a key forward.

Corey Gregson, skipper Cleve Westley, Connor Noonan and Chris Barns also made an impression.

PAC didn’t have the services of Harrison Wigg, the MVP for the SA under 18 side that was triumphant in the national championships earlier this year.

Will Combe, Jack Elsworthy and Harrison Slee were noticed by talent scouts.

The Open Schools Cup has been dominated by SHC in recent years – the Brighton Road school has now won 10 times since 2001.

While the Cornes and Hartlett brothers made it a family affair, the Hayes family might be about to go one better.

Nick Hayes (2012) is now at the Brisbane; Jack Hayes (2013) and Luke Hayes (this year) – are in line for draft selection.
