Who would you take first?

They are vying for the rights for the best player to come out of the Barossa in the AFL era, and their careers are surprisingly similar.

Justin Westhoff (Tanunda) played his 150th game for Port Adelaide a couple of weeks ago and Shannon Hurn (Angaston) reaches that milestone for the West Coast Eagles this weekend.

Both come from Barossa-based clubs, and later headed to Central District in the underage grades before going on to play in SANFL grand finals with the Bulldogs.

Hurn enjoyed two flags, while Westhoff played in the unsuccessful 2006 season decider.

But the bearded Tanunda product also experienced the AFL’s grand final atmosphere as a player in 2007.

Westhoff and Hurn both received rising star nominations in the 2007 season, and after this week they have reached the 150 AFL game milestone within a month of each other.

Each kicked a goal with their first kick in AFL football.

Westhoff is a vital component in the Powers’ structure, whether as a marking forward or a swing man, who plays as the spare in defence.

Hurn, who is certainly in the best five kicks in the AFL, is an important link man for the Eagles.

If unchecked, as he was against Adelaide and in the first quarter against Collingwood, he is damaging.

Both are match winners and game changers.

They also don’t seem to get ruffled or lose their cool.

So, who would you select?
