Sunday’s Port v Geelong match at Adelaide Oval will be a clash between the top two sides, after Port’s win and Hawthorn’s loss in round five of the AFL.

Geelong is on top, undefeated on five wins while Port moved past Hawthorn into second spot after its fourth win of the season.

“We’ve got a really good opposition coming up and a six-day break,” said Geelong’s Tom Hawkins, who was best afield against the Hawks with five goals and seven contested marks.

“We win and that’s fantastic for our record .. but we move on. We’ll review the game, see what we did well and didn’t do so well.

“We’ll look at Port Adelaide and respect them just like we do every other side, and try to find ways that we can expose them.”

Sydney and Carlton got their seasons back on track and the Gold Coast can start to finals after an away win that puts them in the eight.

Adelaide’s Matt Crouch has been named the round five NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.

Crouch, who turned 19 on Monday, won the nomination after his standout 28-possession effort in the Crows’ win over Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.

The midfielder joined the Crows through last year’s draft as a renowned ball-winner and was headed for an even bigger breakout game before being subbed at three-quarter time.

It was Crouch’s third game for the Crows, and already he has averaged 23 disposals an outing – continuing his form from under-18 level, where his strength around the contest and ability to accumulate possessions at stoppages were his defining traits.
