Initially costed at $30 million when first announced in March 2022, the Hotel Panorama is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Designed by Adelaide’s Cox Architecture, who worked on Adelaide Botanic High School and the Adelaide Oval Hotel, the hotel will be built by Sarah Constructions and is set to have a café bar and restaurant, sports bar, outdoor area and rooftop bar.

The Panorama Hotel will be part of Hurley Hotel Group’s portfolio which includes the Arkaba, Marion and Torrens Arms hotels.

The company said up to 100 jobs are expected to be created during the hotel’s construction, with 160 hospitality and tourism positions planned once the project is complete.

It comes after the group’s longstanding Tonsley Hotel near the former Chrysler and Mistsubishi car plant was forced to close in September last year due to the South Road upgrade project.

The state government project has involved buying hundreds of properties for demolition, with 524 reported to be impacted due to the project.

Hurley Hotel Group’s Anna Hurley said the family had been “heartbroken” when they found out the Tonsley Hotel would be forced to close.

“We are very glad we can continue to service the local area with the new hotel,” she said.

“We have paid homage in the design to the history of the area with a mid-century design while also maintaining elements from the Tonsley Hotel such as the Chrysler memorabilia.”

Hurley said the group was looking forward to “working with the locals to make it a very special place in the community”.
