On Tuesday the Department for Education released a statement stating that no SACE exams are expected to be impacted from today, because no high schools remain affected.

“Of the nine closures, five have storm damage, and four are without power,” the statement read.

“One site is only partly closed and the children from two closed sites will be attending off-site excursions for the day.”

A total of 29 schools and pre-schools were closed on Tuesday, but most of those now have power back on and will resume regular classes today.

Across the state, SA Power Networks reported 85 outages affecting 4711 customers early on Wednesday.

Education Department CEO Martin Westwell said the goal was to have students return to school as quickly as possible.

“We have provided the best information that we have to hand at any time, but we realise that details have changed from time to time, and we appreciate all the work being done to return our schools and pre-schools to full operation,” Westwell said.

“Schools and pre-schools without power are closed as it is just not safe for children to be at a site that does not have power.”

Communities in Blackwood, Stirling and Aldgate are facing their fourth day without power today after Saturday’s storm saw widespread damage to power networks, often from falling trees.

SA Power Networks head of corporate affairs Paul Roberts said that parts of the Adelaide Hills could be without power through until Thursday while infrastructure is rebuilt.

“The Hills works will continue into tomorrow and potentially there’ll be some work into Thursday,” he said.

In the metropolitan area, Adelaide’s southern suburbs remain most affected by outages with over 24 neighbourhoods still without power at 7:30am.
