State Government ministers are set for a hefty pay rise in return for losing some entitlements.

State MPs are set to pocket around $30,000 a year more as the Premier prepares to revamp parliamentary entitlements.

Ministers are set to be the big winners as the Government moves to scrap existing travel entitlements and committee loading, instead collating the annual reimbursements and redistributing them in the form of a lucrative annual pay rise.

The Premier’s office is jealously guarding the details ahead of an announcement this afternoon, but it’s understood caucus has been briefed this morning about the proposed changes, which would see shadow ministers granted an additional 25 per cent pay loading. It will be the first time Opposition frontbenchers have been rewarded with additional pay.

But the smiles will be even wider on the Government frontbench, with ministers set to pocket an additional 75 per cent on a parliamentary salary that will likely rise around $25 to $30,000 from its current base of around $150,000.

InDaily first revealed last month that Premier was planning a new travel entitlements scheme, even before recent negative publicity surrounding the overseas spending of his Tourism Minister Leon Bignell.

Cutting out the middle man: Tourism Minister Leon Bignell wants to replace the SATC board with an advisory panel.

Sources say Upper House crossbenchers will be most aggrieved, as they use the existing travel entitlements to service their electorates.
