Radio ratings: 891 takes a fall

Jul 07, 2015

ABC 891 has taken a hit in the latest radio ratings, falling behind talk competitor FIVEaa.

891 lost listeners across the schedule, with breakfast duo Matt Abraham and David Bevan taking the biggest hit.

Nevertheless, the pair remain the leading breakfast hosts in Adelaide – and still by a significant margin – despite dropping 2.3 percentage points over the survey period (19 April to 27 June).

Overall, the ratings battle is tight, with only 3.6 percentage points separating the top five stations.

Mix102.3 remained the leading station overall, despite losing listener share. Nova remained in second spot, but 891 lost 1.4 percentage points in the survey to give up its third spot to FIVEaa, which flatlined.

Golden oldie music station Cruise1323 was the biggest mover in the survey, putting on 1.6 points. It’s now breathing down the neck of 891.

Cruise put on listeners across the board, with particularly big gains in the evenings, mornings and breakfast.

In breakfasts, 891 remains in the lead (16.1), ahead of FIVEaa (13.9), Mix (12) and Nova (11.4). All four of these programs lost share, ensuring Abraham and Bevan maintain a substantial lead.

Triple M and Cruise were the big movers in breakfast, both putting on 1.3 percentage points.

The recently rebranded hit107 finally had some good news, bouncing up 0.7 points overall, and gaining listeners in every shift, including its struggling breakfast program. With popular comedy duo Hamish Blake and Andy Lee back on air in the drive shift from this week, station owners Southern Cross Austereo will be breathing a lot easier.

SCA’s other local station, Triple M, also bounced slightly after a difficult period.
