Australia continues to make last-minute pleas to Indonesia to spare the lives of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, Prime Minister Tony Abbott says.

“This is not in the best interests of Indonesia, let alone the best interests of the young Australians concerned,” he told reporters in France.

Parliamentary secretary to the Foreign Minister Steve Ciobo is concerned by reports of corruption surrounding the judicial process.

“I think Australians want to know the … process has been free of the taint of corruption,” he told ABC radio.

While legal proceedings were afoot it would be inappropriate to go ahead with the executions, he said.

A vigil will be held outside the Indonesian consulate in Sydney on Monday in support of Chan and Sukumaran.

Chan, 31, and Sukumaran, 34, were formally given 72 hours notice of their executions on Saturday.

One of the pair’s lawyer says Sukumaran and Chan were calm and dignified when they were given notice.

Julian McMahon was with the Australian men, who were “magnificent” when Indonesian officials told them they would be executed, something only Indonesia’s president or attorney-general can stop.

“We’re looking at a Wednesday morning execution for nine people, including my clients,” McMahon told 3AW radio.
