Two public servants have been charged with abuse of public office after investigations by the state’s Independent Commission Against Corruption.

An Adelaide woman was charged with almost 350 theft and dishonesty offences, while a man faces six counts of abuse of public office, commissioner Bruce Lander revealed in a statement this afternoon.

Lander said the 47-year-old woman from Redwood Park, who is employed in the public service, was arrested in March and charged with 233 counts of theft and 114 counts of dishonest dealing with documents.

The alleged offences occurred between July 2012 and October 2013. The woman is bailed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on May 15.

In a separate case, a 61-year-old man from Henley Beach, also employed in the public sector, has been charged with six counts of abuse of public office between February 2013 and July 2013.

He is accused of the improper use of information for personal gain and will appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

Lander said he had now referred “a number of matters for prosecution”, details of which “will be made public in due course”.

He said prosecutions had also proceeded in some cases, with details to appear in his annual report.

The SA ICAC does not hold public hearings and cases are usually only revealed when charges are laid.
