At home behind the mic - Nova91.9's Jarrod Walsh

Radio station Nova 91.9 has cemented its dominance in the under 40 segment in the latest radio ratings survey.

Nova is number one with the teenage audience, early 20s and the key 25-39-year-old segment.

While most of the station’s content is syndicated – the network has stations Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth – its local morning presenter Jarrod Walsh is fast becoming radio’s rising star.

Its been a big year for Walsh whose morning program has risen from around 8 per cent of the entire audience to more than 10 per cent in today’s survey.

He’s also raised his profile by being the on-ground MC for Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

The pre-match build-up by Port has been nationally acclaimed by sports administrators and Walsh is its enthusiastic ringmaster.

Walsh cut his teeth as a teenager doing the stats for his father Peter Walsh at the back of the ABC radio broadcast box at AAMI Stadium.

In 2004 he joined Nova’s ‘Casanova’ Street Team and was soon on air with his own show.

In 2012, Nova made him assistant program director.

He’s the perfect fit for Nova’s audience with his passion for music, sport, pop culture and gaming.

In radio’s older demographic it was another big win for 891ABC which now commands 32.3 per cent of the over-65 audience.

Breakfast duo Matthew Abraham and David Bevan hold top spot overall in breakfast with 15.9 per cent (up from 15.3) while Mix102.3 is second at 15.4 per cent and the once-dominant FIVEaa holding third spot with 12.2 per cent (down from 12.7).

The Drive shift is still a problem for FIVEaa, suffering a fall despite the attraction of the AFL finals build-up.

FIVEaa a is down to 11.9 per cent while TripleM continues to gain ground at 9.2 per cent.

The evening shift is a haven for older men: ABC’s Peter Goers holds sway at 15.6 per cent while FIVEaa’s Jeremy Cordeaux is on 15.1 per cent.

Across all demographics and times, Mix102 leads with 15.2 per cent, followed by 891ABs (12.2), Nova (11.8), FIVEaa (11.1) and SAFM (8.5).
