Sanderson speaks out on sacking

Sep 18, 2014

Former Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson has spoken publicly for the first time since being sacked on Wednesday.

Sanderson fronted the press outside the Crows’ West Lakes base and said he had no idea the axe was about to fall.

“We were aware there was a review underway from about June this year. Unfortunately the result is I’ve lost my job,” Sanderson said.

“That’s the way this industry is though. It’s ruthless, it’s very much results driven.

“I understand that’s why boards are in place, to make those sorts of calls. I’ve got to live with it and move on.”

Sanderson denied he had lost the faith of the players, refuting media reports he had ‘lost the players’.

“I think my relationship with the players is really strong. I’m happy with the support I’ve got from the players the last 24 hours,” he said.

“I did fall in love with the group, they’re a fantastic young group, I really enjoyed working with them. I’m sure they’re going to taste success really soon.”

And Sanderson said he’d love another crack at coaching in the AFL.

“I’d love to coach again,” he said.

“I’m still really passionate about coaching. Coaching is what I love doing and I’ll just sit back for a couple of weeks, take a few phonecalls and see what opportunities present themselves.”
