It started just one year ago and last night InDaily’s food column The Forager was acknowledged as the best in the business, winning the Restaurant and Catering Association (SA) award for best media in 2014.

On August 7 last year, InDaily’s readers were introduced to The Forager with the promise of “the latest South Australian food news – openings, closings, produce, chef movements, hot spots, local food trends and more”.

In that first issue, fans of Adelaide’s original and most popular food truck, Burger Theory, were given the good news that the truck boys were about to open a permanent venue in the East End.

In the 52 weeks since, we’ve brought you exclusive news such as Jimmy Shu’s Hanuman coming to Adelaide, some sad but inevitable closures, and details of who’s moving where in the ever-changing food and wine business.

“We’re very honoured to be recognised by the industry for The Forager and our Food and Wine Digest,” InDaily editor David Washington said.

“We’d noticed a strong following for local food and wine stories in our regular edition so it was decided to carve off a stronger, more focussed product which we publish on Wednesdays.

“It’s about South Australia, its food, wine and the people that drive the industry.”

InDaily’s publisher, Paul Hamra said the win was good for digital media and InDaily’s 110,000 regular readers.

“With South Australia’s food industry booming, InDaily made the decision to support it through our innovative digital media publications.

“The award is testament to how the industry has embraced digital media outlets.”

David Washington, a former editor of Sumptuous Magazine, added that SA was well served by food and wine journalism.
