New Adelaide ad splashes down

Feb 03, 2014

The third in a series of arty commercials for South Australia has splashed down – this time focusing on the city of Adelaide.

Even Premier Jay Weatherill says he was “edgy” when he first saw the ad which is “a bit out there on the risk reward curve”.

Opposition Leader Steven Marshall told FIVEaa this morning that he didn’t want to comment on the artistic merit of the commercial – but he did have a crack at it being shown in South Australia.

“It’s just a blatant pre-election spending spree of our taxpayer dollars,” he said.

However, local ad agency KWP! has had big success with its first two efforts for the SA Tourism Commission – for Kangaroo Island and the Barossa – both within the ad world and, more importantly, in encouraging tourism bookings.

The third installment – Adelaide: Breathe – features an astronaut, fast cut dream-like scenes, and a trippy cover version of the INXS hit, Never Tear Us Apart.

It could well be the most controversial of the three.
