Youthworx creating opportunities for marginalised young people

Youthworx is a social enterprise, creating valued roles for young people and a business that provides affordable video production, partially established by Jon Staley.

The aim of the organisation is to engage students in a way that is creative and fun in order to demonstrate that education is not boring. The students are mainly from a lower socioeconomic background and have been referred to the organisation by charities such as the Salvation Army.

The students that successfully complete the program receive a Certificate 3 in Film Production. Upon completion those that show promise and perform well are invited to work within the profit side of the company at Youthworx Productions.

Youthworx Productions specialises in filming events, company profiles and music videos. The profits made from this side of the company are used to fund the training. The company’s main clients are non for profits and charity organisations.

In the future it is the aim of Youthworx to become a sustainable organisation that does not require funding.

Jon Staley, Manager/Producer of Youthworx (Victoria), will be presenting a public lecture at The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre, discussing the development of Youthworx. He will also explore the key principles that have created an engaging teaching and learning space, a viable professional film production business and a scalable model.
