Education through creative learning

Dr Brent Hasty Director of MINDPOP will be speaking at The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre on Thursday 4 June 2015 about his ground breaking teaching approach using creative learning. Brent will discuss how arts education can be incorporated into learning in a whole new way. Brent is a former High School teacher and Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Austin in the College of Education.

Brent believes that engaging students is key to learning. As ‘the more we engage their minds and imaginations, the more success they have in school and beyond’. He describes a ‘mindpop’ as ‘the rewarding moment when everything clicks.’ It is what excites and motivates students and teachers alike. He believes that research shows it happens more often when teachers incorporate the arts into their lessons.

MINDPOP’s innovative approach infuses creative learning experiences, professional development, and curriculum enhancements into classes ranging from Math to English, Science to History. The Creative Learning Initiative is an innovative citywide collaboration providing equitable access of the arts and creative learning through increased access to arts learning, professional development for teachers, campus planning and the integration of community-based arts organisations.

Dr Brent Hasty, Director of MINDPOP, will discuss their work at a public lecture presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Carclew on Thursday 4 June 2015.

Presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre and Carclew and supported by the Adelaide City Council and the School of Education, UniSA
