Daniel Connell: Xenosceptica 3

Xenosceptica 3 is the next manifestation of visual artist Daniel Connell’s exploration of and challenges to notions of difference via the encounter generated by the hand-made portrait.

His work draws together a group of Tamil women who are working as migrant labourers in Kerala, India. The portraits open a window into the lives of a strong group of women whose labour in the construction industry can be seen as symbolic of the often-unnoticed physical building of society at the hands of strong and persistent women.

Daniel is a visual artist practicing between Adelaide and India. He has worked across many communities, cultures and subcultures in Adelaide and in Punjab, Assam, Rajasthan and Mumbai but over the last three years has worked extensively in South India.

His work uses portraits as a way of connecting with communities provoking encounters between his subjects and many others.

This event is presented by The Bob Hawke Prime Ministerial Centre.
