Staff, students and friends of Flinders University will flock to Brighton beach this Sunday (February 1) for the Brighton Jetty Classic, South Australia’s largest open water swim.

Flinders’ sponsorship of the event for the sixth consecutive year reflects the University’s commitment to being actively engaged in, and making a difference to, the communities it operates within, underpinning Flinders’ ethos of building supportive communities.

Hosted by the Brighton Surf Life Saving Club, the 10th annual event features the largest ocean swimming event in SA, as well as the Brighton Jetty Classic Sculptures – a free community-focused exhibition of artworks by local and interstate artists.

As a major sponsor, Flinders University offers its students various opportunities to be involved in the coordination and running of the event, thereby allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experience in areas including DVD production and associated media work, event management and research.

At the Flinders tent, staff will be handing out Flinders University beach balls, zinc sticks and temporary tattoos to participants and visitors. There will also be photo opportunities with Flinders’ very own Captain Matthew Flinders – so come say hi!
