A picture may say more than a thousand words, but the Flinders University Chinese Student and Scholar Association (FUCSSA) has taken no chances by using both to share the stories of its members in Adelaide.

Last week, the Association demonstrated its members’ skills in both approaches as it presented certificates to winners of a FUCSSA writing competition, before showcasing a short video capturing the experiences of Chinese students in pictures.

Dozens of students attended the ceremony to recognise the 11 winners of the writing competition, which was supported by Study Adelaide and Flinders University’s International Centre.

Education Adelaide Chief Executive, Karyn Kent, and Flinders University Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), Nancy Cromar, both spoke at the ceremony before jointly presenting certificates to the winners.

Ms Kent congratulated the winners on the quality of their work, and encouraged FUCSSA members to also apply for the 2014 Governor’s International Student Awards, which offers awards in the categories Academic Excellence, Sporting Achievement, Community Engagement and The Arts.

Professor Cromar commended the quality of the writing competition and took the opportunity to highlight the strength of Flinders University’s relationship with its Chinese students and its ongoing collaboration with the Chinese Government.

She said Flinders University had built strong partnerships in several parts of China and enjoyed links with many institutions. Flinders has also cultivated strong research links, including with CSU and Hunan in Changsha and with Qingdao in Shandong.

“Flinders currently teaches three postgraduate courses in partnership with Nankai University, Tianjin; one with Capital Normal University, Beijing; and two undergraduate degrees in conjunction with the Chinese University of Hong Kong,” Professor Cromar said.

The University has more than 1,500 Chinese undergraduate and postgraduate students.
