UniSA industrial design student Patrick Shepheard’s original spectacles design, “Blend”, has taken out the Judges’ Choice Award in InDaily‘s eyewear design competition.

Shepheard now has the chance to have his glasses manufactured for Health Partners stores statewide.

His entry was selected for its “innovation and refined appearance in response to the brief”.

“The lens shape and softly contoured frame front of ‘Blend’ displays a simple and elegant aesthetic that would be deemed attractive and attainable by a large demographic,” the judges’ comments read.

“The innovation of the magnetic hinge that locks the temple into place, while still allowing movement to open and close them for placement into a case, is a strong concept.

“This, coupled with the ability to easily allow a wearer to remove and replace the temples for different coloured and detailed options, is innovative. It inspires wearers to customise a single frame to suit their mood/personality/outfit, and from a commercial aspect, provides customers with options.

“A fantastic concept!”
