The likes of gold miner PNX Metals and minerals firm Havilah Resources landed in the Winners list this week, buoyed by the strong copper price and demand for safe-haven gold.

Copper prices hit 12-month highs last week and gold breached US$2300 per ounce, injecting confidence into mid-tier mining stocks.

Gas and hydrogen explorer Elixir Energy exited a trading halt on Friday and rose 26 per cent, with 61 million shares traded on the last day of the trading week alone, landing it the top spot on the week’s list.

The company announced encouraging results from a test of its Grandis gas project in Queensland. It said a stabilised flow rate of 1.3 million cubic feet per day was achieved without stimulation.

“Like CSG at the turn of the century heralding the start of a whole new gas play in Australia, this discovery, combined with other activities in the Taroom Trough, may just about herald a new – and very well located – Queensland gas plat at a critical time of a looming domestic gas shortage,” Elixir chairman Richard Cottee said.

Hillgrove Resources was another Winner, rising by 16 per cent in the week on strong copper prices and news that its Kanmantoo underground copper mine project completed its second production campaign.

AML3D shares fell by 22.86 per cent to become the biggest Loser for the week. This was due to the company issuing 78 million new shares at a discount as part of a capital raise to power the company’s US expansion plans.
