Royal Adelaide Show seeking food and wine newbies for showcase

With three months to go before the show opens its gates, the organisers are looking for newcomers to join a new area within the popular Taste SA pavilion.

Damian Cawood is the new owner of Cannelle French Pastries on Magill Road in Stepney.

Cawood said he has applied for a spot in the “A New Taste of SA” section of the popular Taste SA pavilion to make people more aware of the business and share his passion for pastries.

“It’s very hard as a small business owner to gain exposure and bring customers in, mainly because there is so much competition,” Cawood said.

To be eligible to exhibit, the business must be an SA food or beverage producer or processor with the organisation head office located in the state, must have been in operation for less than 18 months and have over 80 per cent production in SA.

Royal Adelaide Show event manager Chelsea Wilkinson said she was also excited about this year’s addition to the Taste SA pavilion, with the Show running from Saturday 2 September to Sunday 10 September this year.

The businesses that participate in the Taste SA pavilion are required to attend the show every day, which Wilkinson said can be a struggle for new businesses.

“A New Taste of SA” allows the business to run a stall for only one day, making it possible for them to participate.

“New businesses often can’t afford to attend the show for the full nine days either because they can’t find the time or because they can’t find the staff to be there for that duration,” Wilkinson said.

“The whole idea is to support these smaller businesses while also giving them the opportunity to connect with the customers and build that database with the people.”

Wilkinson said there are still some spots available within this new area.
