AirAsia X comes to Adelaide

Jul 29, 2013

Kuala Lumpur-based low-cost carrier AirAsia X will start flights out of Adelaide on October 30.

Direct services from Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur will fly four times weekly from Adelaide International Airport to its hub in Kuala Lumpur, the airline announced today.

Adelaide will be AirAsia X’s fifth Australian destination after the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. The route will be operated by a new Airbus A330-300 aircraft with a seating capacity of 377.

The new service was announced by AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani during a ceremony attended by South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill, Tourism Minister Leon Bignell and Adelaide Airport managing director Mark Young at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The airline released promotional fares from Adelaide to Kuala Lumpur from just $99 one way on economy and from as low as $599 one way on premium.

The fares are available for bookings online between July 30 and August 4, 2013, for travel between October 30, 2013 and August 5, 2014.

“We are thrilled to announce that AirAsia X is finally jetting into Adelaide, which means now every Adelaidean can fly to South-East Asia and beyond,” Osman-Rani said.

“The long-haul, low-cost airline began services just six years ago with the aim of making long-haul travel affordable for everyone.

“This new route provides South Australians access to over 80 destinations across 20 countries including Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Osaka and Singapore, at affordable prices.

“Australia is one of our core markets where AirAsia X will see its wings expand and the Adelaide route has been a priority. Our goal since launching our first Australian service on the Gold Coast in 2007 was to operate in the five major states, and we are proud to have accomplished this within six years.

“We are very excited to finally touch down in South Australia and bring some much-needed competition to the skies.”

AirAsia X’s premium-class travel option includes flatbeds.

The airline also promoted its new Quiet Zone option between rows seven and 14, directly behind premium class, reserved for guests aged 12 and above.
