Other happenings include preview performances of the State Theatre’s Company’s Betrayal, the Scandinavian Film Festival, Italian opera gems at Elder Hall and the Willunga Almond Blossom Festival.

Charmaine-JonesASO Does Disco

Adelaide Symphony Orchestra is promising an evening of “pure disco gold” at this concert conducted by Guy Noble and featuring soul singer Charmaine Jones (right). Audiences can expect to hear classic disco hits from musicians such as the Bee Gees, Donna Summer, the Jacksons, Village People and Earth, Wind & Fire, with performances tonight (Friday) and tomorrow night at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Festival Theatre. There will also be a post-concert disco on Saturday night at Waves, InterContinental Adelaide.

Scandinavian Film Festival

Screening at Palace Nova Eastend Cinema until July 29, this film festival showcases dramas, comedies and thrillers from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Films include Icelandic movie Rams, winner of this year’s Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes;  domestic drama Underdog (read InDaily review here); Nordic noir mystery The Absent One, and a biopic of actress Ingrid Bergman. See the full program online.

Winter Reds

More than 30 Adelaide Hills wineries are participating in this weekend’s Winter Reds festival. There are ticketed events – such as Howard Vineyard’s Fireside Asian Banquet, Petaluma’s Open House Lunch and The Lane Vineyard’s Museum Degustation – as well as less formal options. Many events include live music: Nepenthe will have acoustic sessions and DJs plus food from Taco Cat and Burger Theory by the fire in its Barrel Shed, while Ngeringa is serving up a “feral feast” alongside its biodynamic wines and music by Jazzy Jones. The full Winter Reds program and map is online.
