Pop star Dannii Minogue has been announced as the major act at this year’s Feast Festival, where festival-goers will be encouraged to party like it’s the 1990s.

Minogue, who was a judge on TV’s The X Factor until quitting earlier this year, will perform at the October 21 opening night street party of the queer arts and culture festival.

In hailing Minogue as a “fashion icon” with “an extraordinary list of UK #1 club hits”, Feast said in a statement that the singer’s 1997 anthem “All I Wanna
Do” co-incided with the festival’s inception in the same year.

The festival introduced a change in its program direction last year, moving away from a curated model and opting instead for what it described as a “shorter, sharper” line-up – which in 2015 was headlined by former Eurovision Song Contest winner Conchita Wurst.

This year’s event will also start earlier than usual, and continue until November 6.

Other features of the 2016 program launched last night include:

UK duo Z-Star Delta – featuring guitar prodigy Sebastien Heintz and frontwoman Zee Gachette on acoustic guitar and drums – will perform at the annual Picnic in the Park.

Livvie and Pete – a show in which cabaret artists Amelia Ryan and Michael Griffiths will bring to life the stories and songbooks of Olivia Newton-John and Peter Allen

Sous Terre – a “queer, neo-bohemian adventure into reimagined dance music culture” conceived by Adelaide-based production house Adamek Anahata Productions.

Behind the Scenes – A black and white photography project about everyday contemporary LGBTIQ Adelaide lives by Robert Knapman.

Feast announced last week that a permanent LGBTIQ arts and cultural hub will be established in Raj House in the East End with support from the State Government and Adelaide City Council.
