Review: Love, Loss and Lattes

Love, Loss and Lattes is a solo dance, acrobatic and circus performance that explores the richness and culture of coffee as it intertwines with life. ★★★★

Feb 25, 2016, updated Feb 25, 2016

The show is presented by “Missy”, whose beautiful hypnotic performance begins simply. She is writing at a desk, sipping from a mug of coffee which will become the central prop for each apparatus. She creates an intimate atmosphere, posing the question: Do our lives exist for coffee or does coffee exist for our lives?

From rhythmic gymnastics with fallen paper to pole dancing with a twist, Missy displays considerable balance, strength, flexibility and grace. She connects with the audience with an engaging smile and subtle facial expressions successfully displaying a range of emotions.

This is not in-your-face action. The audience has to be drawn in on a sensory and emotional level. You can almost smell the coffee.

Spectacular, fluid and graceful acrobatics on silks and a circus ring finish the 45-minute show, which passed in a flash. A double-shot performance with a smooth, rich crema.

Love, Loss and Lattes is a great change of pace for Fringe circus and physical theatre fans.

Four stars

Love, Loss and Lattes is on at the Tandanya Theatre until February 28.
