The group is celebrating the release this month of their fifth studio album, Still Life, a 10-track LP recorded while member John Baker was undergoing treatment for cancer. Still Life is said to move from “folk/pop notes, into smooth blues arrangements and back out into acoustic and bossa-nova influences”.

Ed Kuepper – The Gov

Kuepper (formerly of The Saints) is touring on the back of his new release Lost Cities – which he refers to as “solo orchestral”. New Adelaide theatre company Mystique Productions is presenting Harold Pinter’s Old Times, a play said to convey the thrill, mystery and destructive force of desire. When married couple Deeley and Kate are visited by Anna, who shared a flat with Kate 20 years earlier, it prompts reminiscing that soon turns into a dangerous game. Old Times is playing at the Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre, until April 9. Read InDaily review here.

2016 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art

With the theme Magic Object, the 2016 Adelaide Biennial draws inspiration from the “Wunderkammer” – rooms or cabinets displaying eclectic collections of exotic artworks and natural objects. Twenty-five artists have created works inspired by the theme. The biennial, which continues until May 15, encompasses exhibitions at the Art Gallery of SA, Samstag Museum of Art, Jam Factory, Santos Museum of Economic Botany and Carrick Hill.

Shields: Power and Protection in Aboriginal Australia – SA Museum

This exhibition at the South Australian Museum explores the role of shields in Aboriginal culture and history. As well as being used in individual and group conflict, carved and painted shields carry symbolism and affirm ancestral links. Printmakers Suzie Lockery and Simone Tippett will host a Makers at the Museum event next Thursday (April 14), guiding participants through the processes of lino-cutting, drawing inspiration from the designs on Aboriginal shields. Bookings are essential and can be made here. Shields continues until May 22.
