Silver Raven Festival – Barossa

This new music festival at the Barossa Valley’s Turkey Flat Vineyards will be headlined by American singer Jason Isbell and also features a performance by popular Adelaide duo The Audreys. The “Americana tinged” event begins at noon on Saturday, with other acts including US singer Eilen Jewell, garage rock ’n’ roll group Bad//Dreems, Adelaide alt-rockers Koral & The Goodbye Horses, honky-tonk duo Hana & Jessie-Lee, and blues/soul singer Ollie English. Spots and Stripes exhibition – The Mill

This special exhibition in support of the RSPCA opens at The Mill Gallery in Angas Street tonight and will be available for viewing from 10am until 5pm on Saturday. It will feature the work of 15 artists, including Vans the Omega and Thom Buchanan. Details on Facebook.

First Fridays – Art Gallery of SA

Fool’s Paradise is the theme of tonight’s First Fridays after-hours event at the Art Gallery of South Australia. It will include guided tours of the 2016 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art – Magic Object and a talk/performance by glass artist Tom Moore (the man behind the inflatable sculpture at the front of the gallery). There will also be performances by music duo Electric Fields and violinist Rob Wallace, plus a theatrical snipped of Much Ado About Nothing. First Fridays runs from 6pm until 9pm.

ASO’s Noble Elgar – Adelaide Town Hall

British conductor Mark Wigglesworth returns to conduct Elgar’s First Symphony in the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra’s second Master Series concert at the Town Hall tonight (Friday) and Saturday. The program also includes Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, featuring ASO duo Natsuko Yoshimoto (violin) and Imants Larsens (viola).

AdYO’s High Drama – Elder Hall

Adelaide Youth Orchestra is presenting its first 3pm Maestro Series concert at Elder Hall on Sunday, with artistic director Keith Crellin promising a program of “dramatical musical masterworks”. It will include Brahms’ Tragic Overture, Boccherini’s Cello Concerto and Franck’s Symphony in D minor.

French Film Festival – Palace Nova

More than 40 features films will be screening during the 2016 Alliance Française French Film Festival, which is at Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas until April 24. Films span a range of genres and include the coming-of-age comedy Microbe & Gasoline (see InDaily review), lesbian romance La Belle Saison, Cannes International Film Festival award winner Mon Roi and the Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Huppert drama Valley of Love (above). Fork Awakens – Light Square

Taking inspiration from Star Wars, the Fork on the Road food-truck event is back in the city today (Friday) with Fork Awakens. Running from 5pm-10pm in Light Square, it will showcase some 25 SA craft beer and cider makers alongside the food trucks, plus live music.

Woodstock Revisited – Pinky Flat

To be held on the banks of the River Torrens on Sunday, Woodstock Revisited will feature performances by the Bald Eagles, Masters Apprentices, Full Tilt Janis and the Graham Cornes All Stars. Gates open at 10.30am, with music from midday until 4.30pm, plus food and wine. BYO picnic rug or chair.

Dawn French – Her Majesty’s Theatre

Comedian, actress and author Dawn French is presenting Thirty Million Minutes at Her Majesty’s Theatre next week (April 5-8). The show is based on French’s life and career, taking audiences through “the various lessons life has taught her, and the things she knows for sure”.

Raw Adelaide – The Producers

More than 30 Adelaide emerging artists across film, fashion, music, visual and performance art will take part in Raw’s Signature event at The Producers in Grenfell Street from 7pm tonight (Friday). Details here.

Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema

The Openair Cinema at Glenelg is celebrating the 30^th anniversary year of Back to the Future with a Sundae Session screening of the iconic film this weekend. Other upcoming films include How to Be Single (Friday), Zoolander 2 (April 3 and 6), Deadpool (April 5) and Hail, Caesar (April 7). Gates open at 6pm and films screen after 8.30pm.

Cats the Musical

This revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s long-running Broadway and West End musical is at the Adelaide Festival Centre’s Festival Theatre until April 10. InDaily’s reviewer says every element is impressive, from the costumes and make-up, to the lighting, music, dancing and alley-cat underworld setting.

2016 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art

With the theme Magic Object, the 2016 Adelaide Biennial draws inspiration from the “Wunderkammer” – rooms or cabinets displaying eclectic collections of exotic artworks and natural objects. Twenty-five artists have created works inspired by the theme. The biennial, which continues until May 15, encompasses exhibitions at the Art Gallery of SA, Samstag Museum of Art, Jam Factory, Santos Museum of Economic Botany and Carrick Hill.

Shields: Power and Protection in Aboriginal Australia – SA Museum

This new exhibition at the South Australian Museum explores the role of shields in Aboriginal culture and history. As well as being used in individual and group conflict, carved and painted shields carry symbolism and affirm ancestral links. Shields continues until May 22.
