This weekend’s events include touring show Walking with Dinosaurs and the circus spectacular Le Noir, a dance-theatre production about Crazy Horse host Joseph Farrugia and a festival of G&S comic operas.

Waymouth Street’s Union Hotel will be hosting an Anzac Street Party on Saturday, continuing its more than 40-year tradition as a meeting place after the Anzac Parade in the city.

G&S Fest – A Princess, Sailors and Ghosts

The G&S Society of South Australia is presenting semi-staged productions of three comic operas by Gilbert and Sullivan in this mini festival at the Arts Theatre. There will be four performances of HMS Pinafore and three each of Princess Ida and Ruddigore over 10 nights, with an on-stage orchestra, a combined cast presenting around 34 characters, and “a procession of exciting costumes that carry a history all of their own”.

Anzac Day in the City

Following the dawn service at the SA War Memorial and the Anzac March at 9.30am, there will be games of Two Up and other traditional Anzac Day events in the Drill Hall at Torrens Parade Ground. The Union Hotel in Waymouth Street will hold its annual Anzac Street Party from 10am, with music (including the Bay Big Band, 5AA Allstars and SA Pipes & Drums), food stalls and a Legacy Foundation fundraising barbecue. Adelaide’s Migration Museum and Maritime Museum are both currently showing exhibitions marking the 100th anniversary of World War I.

Walking with Dinosaurs

Featuring 10 species from the 200-million-year reign of the dinosaurs, this popular touring show is at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre until April 26. Based on the BBC television series, Walking with Dinosaurs – the Arena Spectacular depicts the evolution of these huge beasts, with new scenes added since the last Australian tour showing interactions between the T-Rex, Plateosaurus and Stegosaurus. Le Noir

Subtitled The Dark Side of Cirque, this international production presents acrobatics and acts of contortion, balance and strength that will set the heart racing. The Adelaide Festival Centre’s Festival Theatre has been transformed to offer audiences a 360-degree view of the feats, which are performed by a cast that includes former members of Cirque du Soleil. And it’s an experience not to be missed, says InDaily’s reviewerLe Noir is at the Festival Theatre until May 2.

Oskar Key Sung at Nexus Live

Nexus Arts is promising an exciting line-up of “ indie new-wave ambient R ’n’ B” with Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Oskar Key Sung, Triple J favourite Banoffee and Adelaide group Swimming. Doors open at 8pm tonight (Friday).

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang are coming to the Stirling Community Theatre for nine performances, starting tonight (Friday). Presented by the Hills Musical Company and based on Charles M Schulz’s famous cartoon, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown was first presented on Broadway in the 1960s and follows a day in the life of Charlie Brown as he tries to discover what it means to be a good man. Performances continue until May 9.

Decades ago, the young Bill Chambers and his band Four Crying Out Loud were regulars on the SA pub and club live music scene. Now they’ve reunited for a show at The Gov on Sunday night which will pay tribute to their early grass-roots country and rock ’n’ roll influences. Chambers (dad of Kasey) says the gig will be a mix of old and new music, including his solo material and songs the group played as teenagers.

The Black Rose – Art Gallery of South Australia

This Art Gallery of South Australia exhibition of works by Trent Parke features hundreds of photographs, largely black and white and mostly shot on film, as well as moving-image works, text and books exploring themes such as pain, loss, birth, death and memory. Madame: The Story of Joseph Farrugia

This dance-theatre show at the Burnside Ballroom is based on the life of Joseph Farrugia, creative director and host of Hindley Street strip club Crazy Horse Revue/Madame Josephine’s. Madame includes burlesque and vaudeville, archival photos – and plenty of nudity. InDaily’s reviewer recommends it as a “warm, witty and affectionate production”. Performances continue until May 2.

Crowning Miss Nude Australia 2015

Coinciding with the premiere season of Madam is an exhibition of images by documentary photographer Ben McGee which were taken at last year’s Miss Nude Australia pageant at The Crazy Horse Revue. McGee was given access to backstage areas and change rooms, but says his main aim was to photograph the relationship between the dancers and the audience. The black and white photos will be on display in the Burnside Ballroom until May 2.

The Good Son

Adelaide actress Elena Carapetis describes her playwriting debut, The Good Son, as her version of an Australian tragedy. Centring on the relationship between a Greek immigrant divorcee (played by Eugenia Fragos) and her son Frank (Renato Musolino), The Good Son is playing at The Bakehouse theatre until April 25. Punuku Tjukurpa – SA Museum

This touring exhibition at the South Australian Museum is a retrospective of work from the Maruku Arts company, based in Uluru. Punuku Tjukurpa represents three generations of artists for whom the tradition of wood carving has been passed down, and is described as a view into one of Australia’s finest art movements. The exhibition continues until May 17.
