Limbo turns up the heat

If you are after cheeky, hot circus acrobatics combined with cabaret-style music and high-energy dance numbers, Limbo is the perfect show for you.

At the sold-out show this reviewer attended, artists with unimaginable control over every muscle in their bodies performed tricks I had never seen before and never could have imagined seeing.

Danik Abishev doesn’t just balance on one hand with the rest of his body in a star shape, he does so on poles up in the air, moving along from one to the next without the hint of an effort. Pole dancer Mikael Bres takes his discipline to a new level as he tumbles down the pole, stopping our hearts as well as his body just before the floor. The stunning Heather Holliday manages to swallow swords and breathe fire with sensual ease.

This is one of the things that makes Limbo so appealing; that the artists constantly flirt with the audience, making us feel special, as if this particular show is the pinnacle of their success.

Although slightly too loud at times, the crazy music by maestro Sxip Shirey appropriately pushes the envelope in terms of sounds-scape in the same way that the acrobats push physical limits. When Philipp Tigris bends his body, the audience is too horrified to look, because surely it isn’t possible for a human being to twist like that? Hilton Denis brings it all back to earth with a big smile, a casual flick of the comb and tap dancing that oozes sensual energy.

I can’t recommend this show highly enough. Judging from the queues snaking around the tent, I’m not the only one who speaks highly of Limbo, so you better rush out and buy tickets before they sell out.
